also, another question. I forgot before. How can I format a drive or can I, while using it? The problem is I have outdated disc, and when I try to install another os, it won't install because the os on the computer is newer than what I am trying to install. Or is there a way to force install?

Tech 425, post a link to another os. I tried to search but to no avail.I don't mind 7 or 8, although 8 can be funky sometimes. I really liked xp like a lot of others.

Tech 425 probably had the best idea. Ghost Dreams, I always appreciate any help. There is only one person that knows it all, and I will ask HIM when I get there. Being self taught, I know there is a lot of stuff I don't know. I have stated before, I have forgotten more than most people know. With old age, there is a lot that I don't remember about the little stuff, so I turn to friends to help me remember. I was doing something a while back, and I asked a facebook friend a question, and when he responded, I thought, crap I knew that. Age brings experience, but it also brings it's ugly sister to the dance.

thanx Ghost Dreams, that really explains a lot. This was my mothers computer. She bought it cause it was cheap(4oo.oo). It worked fine for a while and then she did something and screwed it up. I tried everything I knew to repair, and then I told her it was fubar, so she got another one at wally world. I ended up with it and was just trying to make it work to have another computer. I now have 4. 2 that work good and 1 I am trying to repair and a laptop thats fubar at the moment till I have money to repair it. I am disabled with 5 heart attacks and 2 small strokes, so I have lots of free time to do stuff, just no energy some days. I have been on computers for about 20 years and just learned on my own how to fix the problems that came up, usually because of little money. This really explains a lot to me, because I had never encounted this problem before. Thanx for all y'alls help, now and in the future.

am using chrome browser at the moment. it is a refurbished dell, so it must be like you said, bad compoonets. using avg free just to have one, no problems with startup, nothin in startup folder only loads windows . I have deleted or not installed anything else so far. I used the disc that came with machine, computer still is slow. takes a while it seems for programs to load such as chrome and anything else.

also, have searched and no result for windows activation for another computer, specifically Vista Home premium 32.

refurbished Dell Optiplex GX260, xp prov2002,pentium® 4 cpu225ghz, 227 ghz 1 gb ram, windows xp disc that came with computer.

I have reinstalled 2 computers os and computer is still slow. fresh install on 1. still slow. internet should not make a difference, should it? have used all disc cleaners and defragged, computer still slow. have not a clue why. any suggestions from anybody will be appreciated.

not browser. changed bios clock and everthing works at the moment. originaly I needed help with ssl and security certificates. could not download browsers and pages would not update(antivirus and others),could not download much of anything. ie worked, but would not update. could not download google and firefox becaude system would not recognize certificates. changes bios clock and working again. thanx for your help and time.

might need to be flashed, but never done that. never checked bios clock.
