Tigerdirect is a great place to buy these and they are very low in cost

you can use DVDShrink and it allows you to include or remove what ever you wish and it can compress a DVD9 to a DVD5 also, you may also need a handy tool named DVD43 which releases any protection on the disk in order to back up your valued DVD purchased....Please not this is for retail or orginal DVD's All of the above can be found easly through google and is all open source which is free

I use convertXtoDVD also but freemake is also a free great program converts to pretty much anything freemake.com

I agree, this has happened to so many people I know and what it came down to was the HDD was starting to fail, best thing is to get a new one, put the old one in a ZIP LOCK bag (seal it) place this in the freezer for 1 week then attach it as a secondary drive to retrieve the data you want. This will keep the drive from overheating as you recover your data / software / music ect. I know it sounds strange but trust me it works like a charm, I do this all the time for people
