NooB/old fart's question about burning ISO to CD/DVD

Recommended Posts

Optical is optical,eh?

I've used up all of my blank CDs preserving files but still have a stack of blank DVDs from

preserving whole sections of HDDs.

Win 7 only goes on DVDs..got that already but is it fine to put the copies of

XP Pro I've extracted on DVD rather than CD?

I've only known XP in packages to arrive as CDs.

Of course I've always used the standard speed or just 2x for best results.

(yeah, yeah  laugh at the old guy)

Indeed optical is optical. To get to the point, yes you can burn windows xp onto a DVD. As long as your optical drive can read DVD, and it should, you're fine.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I erroneously surmised that Redmond may have placed some code within

that tells the OS what its' native media is. (since they're doing everything else to

kill copying )

Not sure of the size of win 7 but if it's greater than 700-800 MB then it has to go on dvd which has a greater file size

XP Pro should be 586MB (with an SP or 2) so there is no problem putting it on any disk you see fit ;) I have done this many times due to shortage of CDs
