Blu-Ray Playback, Green Screen

Recommended Posts

So I have my Samsung 4k Monitor plugged into my video card (Radeon HD 7800) via HMDI (4k Ultra cord, in the monitor) with a minidisplay port converter. I have this so I have access to the max resolution of my video card with 60hz refresh. Now, the blu-ray disc will not play on CyberLink 12 anymore. It only shows a green screen. I tried using the free player Leawo and I have video and audio where CyberLink 12 will not only do audio. I would just switch to Leawo however it freezes alot of the time, clunky playback, it does this odd thing where it blends pixels together, and sometimes even takes minutes for the skip chapter feature to work.

Is there anything I can do to make the green screen go away? If Leawo can show video, why can't CyberLink?

Can you give me the link to the software you are talking about - I looked at CyberLink website and I don't see CyberLink 12

(If you are talking about CyberLink PowerDVD 12 there is problems with 12 running 4k @ 60hz - CyberLink PowerDVD 17 will play it)

Also have you tried VLC - It plays everything I throw at it (Not sure about 4k as I haven't moved up to it yet)

I did a quick Google search on VLC and 4k - It said it can

I did a search for CyberLink PowerDVD 17 (If this is the software you are talking about)

Yes. Both 12 and 17 have the same issue. Also any time I have attempted the multistep nightmare to make VLC work with Blu-ray it never works. I have a 64bit Windows 10 OS but the computer won't run the 64bit VLC, and that is the one the steps require to use.

Also, side note, the Blu-ray discs I am playing are your standard Blu-ray, the screen resolution for the monitor is set in windows. Any screen resolution yields the same result in playback.

I can only assume the 4k UHD HDMI cable that is plugged into the Mini-dp converter could be causing it. But it worked just fine that way the other day, and Leawo plays through it so I have no idea.

I wonder, would this cable bettter solve my problem and avoid using a cable converter?

And would this cable still allow me to have 60hz refresh? I refuse to drop to 30hz refresh LOL.

Ok - My other system is Windows 10 64bit and I have VLC 64bit version on it and I have no problem with it, So it could be the cable and/or converter (But like I said I'm not sure about 4k, But I don't have a problem doing 1080p at full speed)

I'm not sure why you can't run the 64bit version of VLC - I didn't have any problems installing or running it

Personally I stopped using my Computer to run/stream movies - I use a Raspberry Pi 3 now (I have a 8TB drive and a Blu-ray drive hooked to it)

As far as the cable it might do, But I don't want to say Yes and be wrong

I did a little research on the Raspberry Pi 3 playing 4k and it will but not at 60hz, But I found info on Asus board that say it will do 4k

Again I'm sorry all I can do is search to find info as I don't have a 4k TV yet - I can tell you anything about 1080p as I have an Awesome 1080p TV that is very fast

I can only think the playback software is having handshake issues (HMDI to Mini Dp converter to video card) and thinks I am trying to pirate something LOL.

Could be  :pirate:

I wish I could help more, But I don't think I will get a 4k until around Christmas time (Costs should be nice and low by then, At least I hope as I want an 80inch)

If you give me a nudge in 2 weeks I will have a go as my TV is 4K. I know the problems with playing stuff at that level is getting the encryption level right (HDCP 2.2 ). I have my TV linked to one in the kitchen and trying to find a compliant splitter was horrendous and expensive. If you try and play a high level HDCP on only an HD ready TV then it won't and says it is incompatible. You then have to get an encryption stripper to bring the signal low enough.

2 weeks time I'll be back from holiday and free to have a go with playing stuff on my TV.

Got it sorted out.

1. Unplugged the second monitor, waited ten minutes then rebooted.

2. Opened video card software and restored default settings.

3. Opened Blu-ray movie in CyberLink PowerDVD and it worked. Plugged in second monitor again and it remained working.
