  1. Hey guys,

Well I was going thru Link Heaven subforum, and realized it was starting to get out of hand. First of all, I had a few useless topics I had to clean, but that's not the main issue. Main issue is that it is hard to find what could be useful for you. I see links and programs scattered randomly. In my opinion, that section should only be dedicated to useful websites. We already have other subforums for programs, so why put more in there? The first page is basically pinned threads made by other mods. I don't have any problems with that, but for most of them I don't consider them "vital". So with the permission of the mods who pinned them, I'd like to do a major clean up on those threads, and start subforums inside, so people know where to look to find what they need.

For now I'll just clean useless threads and move topics into their appropriate category, but I want to ask the community's opinion in regards of applications inside Link Heaven.

    R.

  2. Try this:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=pcsupport&cdn=compute&tm=19&f=10&su=p504.6.342.ip_&tt=4&bt=1&bts=0&zu=http%3A//ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

Follow their instruction and you will get your access back. And next time, try and google your problem first, it took me 30 seconds to find this.

  3. Hey guys,

I want to know how to compress raw fraps files into manageable ones. Reason for doing so is that I then want to use them in a powerpoint. Now in the 2010 version, the videos are embedded with the powerpoint, so having small size videos is important. I need some kind of tut to compress and be compatible with powerpoint.

    Thanks a lot

  4. Unless whomever password-protected the rar file was REALLY, REALLY STUPID, no password recovery software is likely to work.

    Why?

Because the examples shown with all such products presume a password like "abc" -- which only a COMPLETE IDIOT would use.

Once you start trying to crack complex passwords (those including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters), the time required to do the cracking quickly jumps from a few seconds (for "abc") to days -- to weeks -- to months.

It's a simple matter of mathematics -- regardless of what you see in the Movies, password crackers can NOT figure out one character at a time; instead, they generate a complete password and then test it. Testing requires trying to open the archive using a password -- which takes time.

Update: Found the research article where sample times were calculated, and presuming a character set of 95 characters and a super-computer able to do almost 1 MILLION tests per second, a three-character password would take less than one second. But by 5 characters, you were already over two HOURS. Eight characters pushed this to 2 centuries. 10 characters pushed this to nearly 2000 Millenia -- 2 Trillion years.

This omitted the largest controlling factor -- the time taken to TEST each password. If it takes 100th of a second to open the archive each time, the times needed have to be multiplied by 1000!

Not saying it Can't be done -- just saying that any reasonably complex password is going to take a LONG, LONG, LONG time to discover.

Yep, I fully agree with what you said there. I did some research and indeed, most programs would take a long time trying to solve complex passwords. However, since my rar files were only intended to avoid usage from the rest of my family, my password was relatively simple, i.e. a normal word. No uppercases or weird characters or numbers involved. So I'm assuming a good rar password retriever can find it in a matter of hours.

  5. So, first things first, you will need two things: a windows live account and Microsoft Office 2010. If you don't have it, the trial version will be enough.

To pull this off, you will need to find out the url of your SkyDrive.

    1. Open an office document, say Word.

    2. Then select "File" > "Save & Send" > " Save to Web" > "Sign In" (To SkyDrive).

    3. Sign in with your windows live credentials.

After logging in, you will see all your SkyDrives' folders. Pick any one, and click "Save As"

At this point, you should see at the address bar a bunch of numbers and letters right before the name of the folder you chose. Right click it and "Copy address as text"

Now you just need to map it as a Network Drive

    1. Bring up the Start Menu

    2. Right Click "Computer"

    3. Select "Map network drive"

    4. Paste the SkyDrive URL and choose a letter for it. For simplicity I chose :S for SkyDrive

    5. Check the "Reconnect at Login" box

    6. Click Finish.

After all that you should see something like this:

    skydrive1.jpg

I've renamed my network drive and as you can see, it DOES NOT show the correct space left. That is due to the properties options for mapped SkyDrives. So you will have to check the space left time to time online.

Finally, link your windows live ID with your windows user account

Reason why we do this is because every time you will reboot your computer, you will have to manually reconnect to windows live to access your SkyDrive. To avoid such hassle, you need to link your windows live ID to windows 7.

    1. Go to User Account Settings in the Control Panel.

    2. Look for "Link online ID's" on the left side of the window.

    3. Windows will guide you from there.

Make sure to sign in with the same windows live ID you used to mount your drive.

And that's it. Hope this will help some people. Some people might prefer this over other clouds just because it has a free 25GB storage off the bat. (Compared to a 2GB from Dropbox for example).
