  1. The Rocket Dolls - The Grip

Metallic grooviness with flashes of the Foo Fighters? Check. Spiky verse chops that call to mind Marilyn Manson's The Beautiful People? Check. Tasty gear-change in the bridge? Check. Brighton trio The Rocket Dolls flit between various heavy music camps, but they make it look easy; in a manner that should keep old-school heavy grungers and younger metal heads alike happy. Having a load of fire in your video is no bad thing either.

  2. Anchor Lane - Dead Run

There's an aromatic whiff of Pennsylvania rockers Crobot in this latest tune from Brit rockers Anchor Lane; currently riding high on their just-released debut Casino. A grungy, classy fist-raiser with gnarly verses and a palate-balancing chorus that invites singalongs. Plus when you’ve got Ricky Warwick popping by to lay down some backing vocals, you know you’re doing something right.

  3. H.e.a.t - Dangerous Ground

The melodic rock Swedes have been on something of a winning streak lately, drip-feeding tasters of their follow-up to 2017’s excellent Into The Unknown. Now they come bearing something so gleefully in thrall to 1986 it could go head to head with The Final Countdown and Top Gun (for godssake they actually sing ‘heading for the danger zone’...). As with all their best tracks, though, there’s still enough snarl and sharpness to stop them sliding into tribute territory. We can't help loving it.

  4. Bluhauz - Purify My Soul

His name might sound vaguely Germanic, but the former Stone Giant singer/guitarist is a Berklee graduate currently based in Miami, and Purify My Soul is all ‘Murca (with a healthy side of British classic rock) – think dirty but decadent slabs of blues rock riffage, boot-stomping delta swagger and a cocksure voice that can’t quite decide whether it wants to be in Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith. There are worse conundrums, to be fair.

  5. Tomorrow Is Lost - Wildchild

A galloping, biting addition to the new wave of rock’n’roll from Newcastle Upon Tyne, this headbanger is propelled by strident vocals, bracing modern rock melody (with a whisper of symphonic metal), and the kind of furious guitars that’d saw through your face given half the chance. Like it? Check out this and more on their debut LP Therapy, which is out on March 13.

  6. Ricochets - Bad Behaviour

Ricochets kick off this week’s list with their first single in 15 years. Depending on how clued-in you are to the Norwegian rock scene this may or may not be news to you, but either way we can confidently say the gap appears to have served them well. Bad Behaviour is an upbeat, slightly Afghan Whigs-y mesh of pounding keys, enveloping guitars and an urgent lead vocal. Clearly taking a step back really can help.

  9. Lamb Of God Releases New Music In Five Years, “Checkmate,” Due Out May 8TH

LAMB OF GOD has revealed a brand new single and video, “Checkmate,” from the band’s first release in five years and the first to feature new drummer Art Cruz. The self-titled Lamb Of God is due out May 8via Epic Records.
    Watch “Checkmate” now at:

    http://lamb-of-god.com.

“‘Checkmate’ brings together all the components of the LAMB OF GOD sound that we’ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band,” says guitarist Mark Morton. “Re-energized and reignited, this is LAMB OF GOD 2020. We’ve never been more excited.”

The fact that the band’s eighth studio effort would warrant ‘self-titled’ status is a testament to the band’s pride and satisfaction with these songs and this period in their creativity.
“Putting only our name on it is a statement,” Blythe says. “This is LAMB OF GOD. Here and now.”
A true collaboration between all members of the band, LAMB OF GOD’s eighth studio album is an amalgam of each individual’s contributions, blended to create a singular style. Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler fuel the album with a mountain of riffs, taking what Lamb of God are known for, and unbelievably, upping the ante to new levels. The rhythm section of John Campbell, looming large as a rhythmic shadow, and drummer Art Cruz, who makes his studio debut with LAMB OF GOD here on this record, underpin the proceedings with passion, sweat and expansive dynamics. Vocalist D. Randall Blythe is as angry, insightful, and informed as ever. Never one to shrink from facing the darker aspects of our nature head-on, Blythe delivers with no punches pulled, and as only he and Lamb of God can in 2020.In celebration of the release of “Checkmate” and the announce of the new album, LAMB OF GOD will appear at a special show at the House of Vans in Chicago on February 14. The event is free and fans can RSVP beginning at 12 noon CST todayat

    HouseOfVans.com

The event will include a photography exhibit featuring photos from D. Randall Blythe that will be included in the new LAMB OF GOD album artwork. Harm's Way will open the show.
In the midst of writing the ten songs that appear on Lamb Of God, the group hit pause on the works-in-progress to man the stage as main support Slayer’s “The Final Campaign.” After months of playing their best-known songs nightly, LAMB OF GOD returned to the new tracks and began to work with longtime producer Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Gojira, Trivium). Special guests Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) and Chuck Billy (Testament) also make appearances on Lamb Of God.
Lamb Of God pre-orders are available at

The Richmond, Virginia, quintet propelled heavy metal into the new millennium two decades ago with the prophetically titled New American Gospel. They followed with 2003’s As the Palaces Burn, which made the Rolling Stone list of the Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Ashes of the Wake, released in 2004, was the first LAMB OF GOLD album to be certified gold by the RIAA, as was 2006’s Sacrament, which also made a Top 10 Billboard 200 chart debut. In 2009, LAMB OF GOD released Wrath, their first with Wilbur at producer, and earned the number one album spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock, Rock, and Tastemaker charts, with a number two position on the Billboard 200.
Those number one positions were repeated with 2012’s Resolution, which swung effortlessly between thrash, traditional metal, sludgy doom, with flashes of crust punk swagger and bravado. LAMB OF GOD’s last album, VII: Sturm und Drang (2015) made its debut on the Billboard 200 at number three and finished number 2 in the world charts, reaching Top 5 in five countries and six addition Top 15 positions.
In 2020, LAMB OF GOD is re-energized and unrelenting, ready to lay claim to the metal throne.

Shapeshifting was co-produced by Satriani and Jim Scott (Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) with longtime associate John Cuniberti onboard handling the mastering duties.  Satriani enlisted a wide range of collaborators, both old and new, to help him bring the songs to life. Legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), and keyboardist Eric Caudieux were the core musicians on the new album with additional contributions coming from Lisa Coleman (The Revolution) and Christopher Guest.

The retro feeling sounds of the first single, “Nineteen Eighty” finds Satriani spiritually revisiting the time period when he was working with his first band, the Squares. The future guitar hero the world came to know less than a decade later, would have to wait. He recalls that in those early days, they “dialed back the guitar solos and histrionics to try to create a cooler new wave vibe.” Decades removed from those goals, he was free to go forward and attempt to recapture what was on his mind in 1980.

Staying true to the sounds of the time, he even used a vintage MXR EVH phaser. “I’ve always been a huge fan of Eddie Van Halen,” Satriani says. “In my mind, he just crystallized that era. In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, he kind of saved rock guitar. So that’s what I would have been doing.”

As previously announced, SATRIANI will embark on “The Shapeshifting Tour” beginning April 15, 2020, with a 42-date European leg that currently winds up in mid-June. Additional dates, including the U.S., to be announced soon. The 2020 touring band features celebrated drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), bassist Bryan Beller (Aristocrats), and keyboardist Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc) joining SATRIANI on guitar.  Current Shapeshifting Tour Dates HERE:

For two decades, the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as the founder of the all-star “G3” guitar extravaganza.  SATRIANI’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date, and of his many solo albums, two have gone platinum. Four others went gold, with 15 Grammy nominations between them.  His side project, Chickenfoot, featuring former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith saw their debut album certified gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.

  12. Alien Nosejob - Television Sets

Best band name ever? To be fair it’s more memorable than Jake Robertson (the name of the Aussie dude behind all this). The story goes that Robertson gave up “waiting on others to rock up to practice, write their parts, tune their instruments, yada yada” and decided to go it alone. Part lo-fi indie rock, part Ramones-y punk’n’roll, Television Sets suggests he’ll do just fine.

  13. Buffalo Summer - Everybody's Out For Number 1

Sounding way grungier and nastier than their southern-rockier-than-thou band name might suggest, Welshies Buffalo Summer are opening the case for their upcoming album Desolation Blue like a bunch of hairy renegades from Nirvana-era Seattle, with their own strutting pace and snarling character. Noice.

  14. Empyre - My Bad

Empyre continue to defy labels but sound damn good doing it. If we were to compare it to anything we'd venture that My Bad sounds a bit like Alter Bridge at their most gnarly and alternative, with a few prog metal twists in the background. According to frontman Henrik: “My Bad predicts the almost inevitable collapse of a relationship, but is an appeal to salvage it.” Heavy stuff, confidently pulled off.

  15. Shades Of Gray - I Get Up

The sunshiny, gloriously cheesy new brainchild of Myke Gray – also of Skin, Jagged Edge and UFO – this is a highly danceable shaken-up soda can of glam rock boogie that doesn't take itself too seriously, and sounds all the better for it. Think Status Quo playing Download, in KISS make-up. And yes it’s as fun as it sounds.

  16. Devilskin - Corrode

Another beefcake with which to hulk up your Monday protein intake, but with more metallic menace and the sort of chorus that Evanescence and Vicious-era Halestorm might have written together. Indeed, the Kiwi quartet have already toured with Halestorm – as well as Slash, Motley Crue and Disturbed – so they’re preaching to a receptive choir...

  17. Black Star Riders - In The Shadow Of A War Machine

One of the heavier cuts from BSR’s latest, Another State Of Grace, our first track this week comes with a beefy bruiser refrain, strapping vocals and boxer-jabbing guitars that practically dare you to mess with them. Angry, politically engaged and catchy as all hell? Yes please.

  18. Jake E. Lee Needs To Reform Badlands With This Singer

Jake E. Lee has put out two records with his Red Dragon Cartel.  I liked his first album, and RDC's latest album didn't excite me too much. Badlands was Jake's best music.  He had Ray Gillen, and their first album is a classic.  Most dismiss when you talk about a Badlands reunion because Ray is deceased.  You'd need someone who'd sound like Ray, right? Let me introduce you to Dino Jelusick.

Dino is the singer for Animal Drive, is part of the Trans Siberian Orchestra, and most recently teamed up with George Lynch on the project Dirty Shirley.  Haven't you heard of Dino?

After listening to that, one would think to grab Greg and Eric and do some shows.

It would be great if Jake would record some music with Dino on vocals and/or do a few shows.  Nothing will bring back the original Badlands, but teaming up with Jelusick would create some great music and most certainly would be better than anything Red Dragon Cartel has put out.

  19. Adrian Vandenberg Recruits Ronnie Romero To Reform Vandenberg

Vandenberg is back! Or should we say: VANDENBERG is back? The man himself, Adrian Vandenberg, has never really been away. Still, the band that carries his proud name has returned, after an absence that lasted for more than three decades, VANDENBERG is very much alive again in a young, fresh and all-revised 2020 version.

Adrian Vandenberg can already look back on a rich career. He played in WHITESNAKE for over 13 years, having been part of this seminal band's most legendary lineup. He was the driving force behind MANIC EDEN and, more recently, VANDENBERG'S MOONKINGS. Still, equally proud, he looks back on VANDENBERG, the Dutch band that put him on the map internationally. "So many people still come up to me and speak about those glory days and the albums I've made with that band," he says.

All these compliments have inspired Adrian to bring VANDENBERG back to life, albeit in an all-new lineup. Together with renowned producer Bob Marlette (ALICE COOPER, BLACK SABBATH), he is currently putting the finishing touches to a new album that will be in stores later this year. A first taste of what is to come can be heard online as of today; "Burning Heart," which you can check out below. A brand new version of the classic hit, it is sung by none other than Ronnie Romero, who first came to prominence when Ritchie Blackmore recruited him for a RAINBOW tour in 2016.

Romero's impressive vocals can be heard on all songs on the upcoming VANDENBERG album, and he will also be part of the touring band. Together with Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE) on bass and Brian Tichy (SLASH, OZZY OSBOURNE, FOREIGNER) on drums, the band has recorded nine all-new, original songs, backed by Koen Herfst (crowned as the best drummer of the Benelux, six times in a row) and Randy van der Elsen on bass (TANK) the band plan to hit the road, soon. Says Adrian: "First, get the album done, and then I want to get out there and play. We want to play this music to audiences all over the world."
About his decision to relaunch the band VANDENBERG, Adrian says: "Going with the band name VANDENBERG was a logical decision. Rock fans would know right away what they are dealing with. I felt that I wasn't done with the style of music I wrote for my band VANDENBERG at the time and wanted to pick up the thread where I left it when I joined WHITESNAKE. But to me, that would only make sense if I'd come up with a brand new, testosterone-driven version of VANDENBERG with a kick-ass, world-class lineup. VANDENBERG 2020 on steroids. So that's exactly what we did. BAM! Here I go again."

Romero adds: "To me, it's a dream come true. I've followed Adrian's career for years, and he always was one of my favorite guitar players, so to work with him is nothing but amazing to me. Adrian is an exceptional musician, and it's effortless to work with him. The energy when we work together was fantastic. We had great times at the studio with our producer Bob Marlette; fascinating time.”

Marlette is equally enthusiastic. "Working with Adrian has been a real pleasure," he says. "The man is working around the clock, and his well of new riffs and melodies never seems to dry. With a powerful singer such as Ronnie Romero behind the microphone, I was some true magic expecting to happen and let me tell you... it has."

In short, these guys mean business. Thirty-five years may have passed since the final studio album "Alibi," Vandenberg 2020 sounds just as fresh, relevant, and at least as HEAVY as back in the day. Fun times will revive with a brand new album, and an agenda filling up quickly with festivals and other touring plans. Or as the man himself, Adrian Vandenberg, puts it: "Fasten your seatbelts, VANDENBERG is here to stay."

  20. Testament Announce New Album Titans Of Creation & New Music Video For “Night Of The Witch”

The time has arrived for legendary bay area thrash metal giants TESTAMENT to unleash new thunder to the masses and reveal their thirteenth studio album, Titans Of Creation, which will be released on April 3 via Nuclear Blast.

Today, the band releases the lyric video for the first single, "Night Of The Witch" here: youtu.be/cF2hIrXq2ss

Cuck Billy comments, "It has been months since the final mixing of ‘Titans Of Creation,’ and we are eager for fans to hear it. We feel that we put a lot into this record, and at the end of the day, it is a TESTAMENT record that stands on its own. We are very proud of ‘Titans Of Creation.’”

“'Night Of The Witch’ uses old school lyrics about witches chanting in the moonlight and casting spells. The beauty of this song is that I worked Eric's vocals into the chorus. I wanted to incorporate him as he does Dragonlord, and this song was a perfect match. It is a heavy song and a great way to introduce everyone to ‘Titans Of Creation.’”

Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson produced Titans Of Creation while Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios handled co-producing, recording, and engineering. Andy Sneap was responsible for the mixing and mastering of the album. Eliran Kantor stepped up once again to create a new masterpiece of artwork for the cover of this release.
