  1. Hi there. Newbie here.

Oh body - which Anti-Virus to use????

I've been working on computers for a while and played around with various different flavors of Anti-Virus.

The one I settle on is Avast.

    What I love about it:

It is free, totally, for years and years... (Yes, you can buy all kinds of add-on features which I don't care about!)

    It's nice and small.

It has minimal effect on the speed of your machine.

Virtually no adverts (Yes, there is the occasional pop-up add for a new version every couple of months).

You hardly know it is there.

Appears to be effective... no viruses coming through for me.

    Hope this helps you.

    You can download it from:

  2. Hi there.

I'm careful when using Operating systems. I'm not one to try the downloaded - hacked version of my Operating system.

But buying Windows 10 at $120 is just too much for me (having a household of 4 computers).

I found some great deals on sites that sell CD Keys for $ 85 (I think I'm not allowed to share the site details - admin?).

But that is still a lot of money!

And then I found people selling Windows Keys on e-bay for $5... for Windows 10 Pro!

I thought it must be a scam!!!

But for $5 I'm willing to try it.

I read through the reviews of several sellers until I found one that looked trustworthy.

So, I paid the $5 and a day later I had my CD key for Windows 10 Pro.

    Result:

Tried it, and it worked perfectly.

It's a month later and Windows 10 Pro is still running perfectly.

Maybe this advise can save somebody some money too.

  3. Hi there. Newbie here.

I use NetTraffic to monitor my network speed. It is small, uncomplicated and free.

Yes, there are many, many other software out there that you have to pay for that does all kinds of interesting things, but I don't need that (counters, resets, etc.)

All I want is a speed meter that I will click on to see if there is network traffic and the speed - when it suits me.

Maybe this will help you too.

    You can download it from:

    http://www.venea.net/web/nettraffic

It works on Windows 32 and 64 bit.

  4. Hi there.

I use JDownloader 2 to download files from all kinds or sources. Youtube included (can separately download audio and video).

It is also nice to sort through file sharing sites. I don't have premium membership with any of them, so it will sort them and even download from multiple sites.

It has resume and can download fast using multiple threads.

JDownloader 2 is has version for Windows, Mac and Linux.

It is totally free and can be found at:

    http://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2

    Hope this helps you too.

(This is my first post, so I hope it meets the forum requirements).
