  1. “Muggle” used to be slang for marijuana in the 1920’s and 1930’s!

In the Harry Potter world, a muggle is someone who wasn’t born with any magical powers and wasn’t born in the magical realm. J.K. Rowling said she got the term from British slang “mug” which means “an easily fooled person.”

An article from 1931 in Time magazine said that prison authorities found “muggle smuggling a perplexing problem.” Back then, muggle was a term for marijuana.

  2. The woman with the longest confirmed life span in history lived to be 122 years and 164 days

Her name was Jeanne Calment and she lived in Aries, France. She outlived her own daughter and grandson! She became famous when she was 113, because that was the year of Vincent Van Gogh's centenary. She met Van Gogh in person and remembers him as being "dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable."

She took up fencing at age 85 and rode her bike up until she was 100. She was reportedly not fanatical about her health. She smoked up to 5 years before her death and wasn't particularly athletic. She did say that her secret was olive oil: she poured it on all her food and on her skin.

What would you do if you were able to live to 122 years old?
