Half Monk 697 Report post Posted June 5, 2013 If you have been following the recent mainstream media interviews with Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, you know he loves science. His personal office is filled with DVDs that have college level courses on science and other topics and he's also the proud owner of a 72 page scientific notebook from Leonardo da Vinci that he bought for $30.8 million. Today, it was revealed that Gates has put in some of his own money towards ResearchGate, a social networking service specifically for scientists. ResearchGate launched in 2008 and currently has over 2.9 million people who publish and share their findings with others. Gates was just one of many investors in a new round of funding for ResearchGate, which raised a total of $35 million from a number of other venture capital groups. Ijad Madisch, co-founder and CEO of ResearchGate, stated: We’re thrilled with this latest round of investment, and particularly that Bill Gates is now among our esteemed investors. His aim is to eradicate diseases such as malaria and polio. This cannot be done without major scientific advancements and making knowledge accessible for all.
