Steve Ballmer opens newest Microsoft Store; gives free Xbox One coupon to fan

Recommended Posts

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, as promised earlier this week, helped to open the newest Microsoft Store location in Troy, Michigan today. The store, located in the Somerset Collection shopping center, is only the second location that Ballmer has personally helped to open since Microsoft started their retail strategy few years ago.

Ballmer made the trek to Troy today in part because he was born and grew up in the  area. Indeed, CBS Detroit reports that Ballmer spent much of the time greeting local family and friends at the store opening, while at the same time avoiding questions from the local press.

Another story about the store opening comes from the Detroit News website and states that Ballmer gave a coupon for a free Xbox One to a random person who had been waiting in line for the Microsoft Store to open before the official ribbon cutting ceremony. A second coupon for the upcoming console was given by a local radio DJ to another person waiting in line.

Tomorrow, Microsoft opens yet another retail store, this time in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company now has a combination of over 70 large and smaller "specialty" stores in the US and Canada.
