Half Monk 697 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 The launch of Windows 8 last fall also saw a number of companies release quite a few notebook-tablet hybrid products that used Microsoft's OS. That trend will be continuing for at least the foreseeable future, according to Intel's new CEO Brian Krzanich. Dell's upcoming XPS 11 is one of the upcoming new Windows 8 notebook-tablet hybrids with Intel chips inside. VentureBeat reports that Krzanich, in Intel's regular quarterly conference call to financial analysts on Wednesday, said that 50 notebook-tablet hybrid products are in the works at various PC makers. Those products will all use Intel's recently launched fourth generation Core processors, code named Haswell. We should see more of these kinds of products coming out as Microsoft gets ready to send the final version of Windows 8.1 to PC OEMs in August. Dell has already revealed plans to launch the XPS 11 sometime this fall, which has a hinge design that's similar to Lenovo's already released Yoga family of hybrids. Intel needs for these notebook-tablet combos to gain traction in the PC space, especially since PC shipments overall continue to decline worldwide. Intel's Haswell's chips are supposed to offer 50 percent better battery life compared to the last generation of Core processors so that might make these upcoming PC hybrid products more attractive to consumers.
