Are SSD worth buying for boot?

Doesn't look like it is in the windows applications section or at least I couldn't find it. here is the link to SSDlife site. They offer a freeware version. Just in case anyone is interested. If I can find a Pro version out there somewhere then I will post it in windows applications. http://ssd-life.com/eng/compare-versions.html

Are SSD worth buying for boot?

If you don't mind spending the extra money for an SSD then yes, buy one. I have had mine for approx 3 months now and absolutely love it. My boot up time is at least a 1/3 of what my 7200 rpm HHD is. Programs that are installed on SSD load almost instantly. Games run much better on them also. I currently have a 128 gig Crucial M4 sata3 backward to sata2 and 500 gig 7200 rpm for storage. My Windows Experience Index on SSD is 7.7 where the HHD was 5.9. You will not be disappointed if you buy a SSD. fennfam3

    judge me not tattoos

Its not the tattoos that make the person, it is the person that makes the tattoos. If that makes sense to you. Sadly we as a society have always seemed to have associated tatoos with bad people. This isn't even close to that anymore. You find tatoos on just about anyone these days. Many just desguise them most of the time. My daugter has 4 that you never see (not sure exactly the point of more that 1 if you aren't going to show them off). Anyway, tattoos are very slowly coming around as normal but until then, stop worrying about what others say. Just worry about your friends and family because when it all comes down to it, those are the people that really matter. Not some smuck sitting across the room making stupid comments. Those who talk about others in a negative way have weak minds and low self esteem. My guess is that they wish they had the gonads to get one themselves. Just my thoughts and opinions. Enjoy you tattoos. fennfam3

A word of Appreciation and a Suggestion

Hello shan96, Your suggestion does sound like a great one. Maybe in the near future CW can implement this. Currently CW is working out some bugs to make CW "The Best" warez site on the net. So once the bugs are worked out then maybe we can run this by and get it accomplished. fennfam3

    Networking Windows7 and XP

Setting up Windows7 with Windows XP networking. C/P First make sure both machines are members of the same Workgroup which by default is named Workgroup. On the Windows 7 machine go into Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Network and Sharing Center then click on Change advanced sharing settings. You will want to verify the following settings under Advanced Sharing Settings for the Home or Work and Public profile. If you want any user to have access the public shares turn off password protection. This is located in Advanced Sharing Settings toward the bottom of the list. If you want to keep it enabled make sure there is a log in account for the other XP machines and they have a password. Now if you go into Network in Windows 7 you should see your XP machine and the Windows 7 as well which in this case is Mysticgeek-PC. To share the printer on the Windows 7 machine go into Devices and Printers from the Start menu and double click on the printer icon. Next double click on “Customize your printer”. In the Properties screen click on the Sharing Tab and check the box to share the printer and type in its share name. If your XP machine is an x86 OS you can install Additional Drivers before setting up the XP machine. To find the shared folders and devices double click on the Windows 7 machine icon under Network. Here you can see the printer connected to my Windows 7 machine is shared and also the Users Folder. Image/Link Removed by Moderator... Continue into the Users folder and Public to see the shared folders, here I also created a folder called XP Share just to keep everything in central location. Over on your XP machine open up My Network Places to find the Windows 7 (mysticgeek-pc) shared folder. Double click on the Share folder to find a list of shared folders in the Public folder on Windows 7. If you have password protection enabled you will need to type in the username and password of the user account on the Windows 7 machine first. Setup XP With Shared Printer To set up the shared printer in XP you will need to go into Printers and Faxes from the Start menu and kick off the Add Printer Wizard. Now select “A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer” then hit Next. Image Removed my Moderator... Next select “Connect to this printer…” and type in the path for the printer connected to the Windows 7 machine and click next. Now click Yes to the confirmation message. Then click Finish the printer to install and complete the Wizard. In some cases you will need to install the x86 XP drivers for the shared printer because the Windows 7 drivers are not compatible with XP. When everything is installed open up Printers and Faxes to find the shared printer. This should help you get started with sharing your files and other devices with your Windows 7 machine. When I first started I was able to see the printer on XP right away because I had a HomeGroup set up, but once I deleted it I needed to share the printer like you would for a workgroup. You might also have to do a couple restarts of the XP machine for it to see the shared resources on Windows 7.

I believe hustler1 is correct. Homegroup is specific to Windows 7 so xp cant understand it.

    XP over Windows 7

If you are sure that you now have only one partition on your HHD and it has been formated, then try this: 1) go into the BIOS settings 2) see if the SATA is set on AHCI. If so, then change to IDE or ATA. 3) exit and save changes 4) load windows xp in drive and reboot 5) install xp. If you are not sure how to get into the BIOS, then let us know as they are different ways depending on manufaturers. But you can try tapping several times on F1, F2, F3 or DELETE when system first boots. If you are not comfortable with messing with the BIOS then see if you can get someone who is to do this for you or we can guide you step-by-step. We just need exact model# of your computer. There is a posiblity that Sony has a proprietary and wont let you use anything other than their windows os. if this is the case more than likely u will have to contact sony and buy a xp restore disk from them. usually around $10 usd.

[SOLVED] what gfx card to get from santa?

I have to agree with linuxuser that if the ASUS GTX550 will fit then buy that one. It looks like it is just about right at your budget. Nice card and should allow you to play Battlefield 3 with no problems.

    XP over Windows 7

First, When you are reformatting, are you getting rid of the 2nd partition that Windows 7 has created? If not, then you must delete that partition as well. As long as that partition is still on the HDD, then you will not be able to install xp over 7. There are system files on that 2nd partition that is keeping you from installing xp. Let us know.

    XP over Windows 7

Need a little more info on your system. What is the make and model? Is there an OS on there now? If so, which one? At this point I would guess that you need to setup your boot config to boot first to CD. If no CD then boot first to USB. Let us know so we can further assist you with this issue. UPDATE: forget that I asked about if there was an OS on your system now. I see it in your psot title.
