  1. What you need to do is go to the manufacturer of the desktop/laptop and see if there are updated drivers. This is usually the easiest/best way to get drivers.

You can also create a flash drive installation and once Win7 is installed then hopefully then you can update the driver (doubt it but worth a try)

You may also try and update the firmware on your optical drive. Here is the link to your particular optical . Make sure you read the instructions if you decide to go this route. If you fail to follow instructions exactly then you will brick your optical drive.

Last but not least, you can go here and see if you can find the drivers. Just make sure you select the correct manufacturer. (No guarantees on this one)

  2. junaid hamza,

A really good format program is called "Darik's Boot & Nuke" and is easy to use. You will need to create a cd\dvd or flash drive to use this. You can tell it how many swipes to do and type. Be for warned that this can take many, many hours depending one they type and number of swipes you do. That all depends on how efficient you wish to clean.

If you are just wanting to wipe the drive to reinstall an OS for yourself then the OS will do just fine or you can simply do a format through DOS promt.

Here is the link to Boot & Nuke. Please read all info here before proceeding.

  3. So I decided to download and intsall Window 8 Consumer Preview (beta) yesterday. And boy did I get a shock when I started messing around with the new Window 8.

It is nothing like previous versions of windows. From 95-vista-7 there has been quite a bit of change but was easy to adjust to the "suttle" but much more secure versions. Win8 is not easy to adjust to. Major changes have accured. If you own a Windows phone then this will not seem much of a change to you. Also Win8 is geared towards the touch screens. This I do not have nor do I have a Windows phone.

Start button(orb) is gone. There is now a "Start Screen" and icons are now apps. (hmmm...wonder where that came from).

What you think you know about and where things are at in previous windows is alot different than Win8. So far the only thing that seems somewhat the same is you can still go to old style desktop and you still have a task bar.

Getting to settings is different, IE 10 Metro is standard on Win8 and it is very bizzare. not anything like IE9 and later.

If you don't know keyboard shortcuts then you might want to learn them if you are going to use Win8. The Windows key on your keyboard will start to become a constant used key.

I will continue to use Win8 for a few more days but currently my thought is to just uninstall it and forget about it.

I know some of us chuckle when some people are still using XP (which by the way for those who dont already know, Microsoft will stop supporting XP by 2014) but I believe there will be a lot of us that are chuckled at when we are still using Win7 after Win8 has been out for a few years.

Here is a good link to see some of the Win8 and some of the strange things they did....like how dificult it is to get into "Safe Mode"

Yes, this is still a beta and I am sure things will change. How much, only time will tell.

So if you have installed it, please leave feedback. If not installed but have been checking things online about it, leave feedback. I am very interested in what others have to say about the all new Windows 8.

    Update:

It is starting to get a little bit less clunky so to speak. It is definitely getting better to use. I am finding some things (not many) are same as Win7.

  4. If you suspect that the Daemon tools widget is the problen then you need to go ahead and uninstall it to verify this is the problem. Daemon tools is easy to re-install.

The least I would do is just disable the Daemon widget and see if the others crash. If not, then it is the Daemon widget or you have too many running at one time using memory like @vigneshnallamad is stating.

Also, is there anything else that you might have done recently that might have also caused this issue?

Last but not least, how much memory does your laptop have?

You will need a Google acct (gmail acct) for the 2nd one to work. It is supposed to unlock as it is uploading to Google.

    Let us know your findings.

  6. Good luck @dirtylow. Keep a positve attitude and Brag, Brag, Brag about yourself and you will land this great opportunity.

Please keep in touch with original post findings and everyone here will keep trying to help you if you need us.

  7. search this way;

    Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn

anything else that has letters and/or numbers that are less than 4 will give you the error. examples are "the" "and" "123" or less

So you would leave out what is in bold/italic - The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011) and would not even need to put in the "Part" and "(2011)"

  9. The problem that @oneoone was having was a BSOD even after formating the HDD. This paticular situation was that it was faulty RAM. We ended up PMing each other on this and I suggested to remove one of the 2 memory sticks and try installing windows. If problem still happened then to swap out the memory sticks and try again. What this did was indicate that one of the sticks was faulty and once the bad stick was removed then it allowed @oneoone to install windows.

  10. Frogger,

I don't believe it is the HP software that is on there causing this issue.

Here are some really great articles on setting up homegroup, turning it on or off and trouble shooting. Read all and you should me good to go.

Please verify your version of win 7

  11. oneoone,

Sorry for getting back with you on this so late but had to leave to help a friend of mine that is blind. Any how, everything looks fine as far as the specs go. So It looks like we will have to do some simple things first to try and narrow down the issue.

    First things first:

    • Run updated AV and Malwarebytes to eleminate any virus/malware. Run both in Safe Mode. This is assuming you have Vista back up and running.
    • Go to your manufacturer and update all drivers. Main one is the Disk controller.
    • Update your BIOS if there is a newer version then yours. You can check in your BIOS for the version you currently have.
    • Put Windows 7 disc in and reboot. You may need to look into your BIOS and set CD as first boot option. By default this should already be set this way.

Let us know what has happened and If you need any help with the above.
