  1. Are you trying to install vista or 7 over an exisiting OS? are they full ver or upgrade OS's? If so then you may have a registry issue, hdd issue, mem issue etc.

    Please give us details to your computer,

    Also, a clean install is always the best way to go but please give details and are you willing to do a clean install and back up anything that you see to be valuable.

    If you bought the computer from store then just need make and model. If not please provide the following:

    OS

    Processor

    Size of HDD

    Memory amount

    Video card

    Unless you know for sure that you can install vista or 7 on your computer.

  2. @fennfam3 buddy if tht was the case atleast bios window would be visible in the beginning right? im just asking for knowledge...

    Actually it should show up during boot and If it is not then once again leaning towards a hardware failure. It could also be video card issue.

    @sama,

    Try what I stated earlier and if that does not seen to fix the issue then one more simple thing to do is a system restore. I am only saying this in case for some reason something else is corrupted then a system restore can fix the issues. Slim chance but worth a try.

  3. There is a possiblilty that the uploader violated the CW rules and it was deleted. Or the uploader deleted it themselves. Or it was a new post and for some reason CW had a rollback even though I haven't seen a rollback in quite some time. If by chance you are using Internet Download Manager, then right click on the download within IDM and select properties. It will give you the CW post link and just click it. If the post is still alive it will take you right to it. If it is dead then you will get an error.

  4. @vigneshnallamad may very well be correct but before you go there try and see if by chance you have accidently turned off the laptop monitor. To do this, press the Function key and F5 simultaniously and see if the laptop monitor comes back on. fnf5.png

    If not then while holding the Function key, tap the F5 button and it should toggle through some display options. Do this with external monitor hooked up.

    Also check the drivers are ok.

    1. Go to Start
    2. In the search box, type Device Manager and press Enter
    3. Now that you are in Device Manager, click on View then Select Show Hidden Devices
    4. If there is a problem, you will see a small icon over the top of another icon which will be a ? mark or ! mark. Both will be Yellow

    This is probably not the issue but worth checking. See if by chance the Power settings have been changed. I have seen on a laptop where the person had changed the Display so dim that every time you ran off of the battery it would dim to the point you could not see anything on the monitor. Quick and simple fix.

    Last but not least, If your laptop is still under warranty then you should send it in if it ends up being the monitor went bad.

    Get back with us on your findings.

  5. you can hook up an external monitor with an hdmi or vga cable. U should have both on laptop. Monitor would need one of the two. Many monitors will have HDMI, DVI or VGA connections. There are many combo cables out there that will convert from for example: DVI to HDMI or HDMI to VGA etc. There are also adaptors that can convert an exsisting cable. Many combinations.

    As far as hooking up two external monitors, there are what they call video switches but not sure if one will do 2 external monitors. Be forewarned that these switches can get very expensive. Google or check out newegg.com on these swithces. Dual or more monitors are the way to go if you can.

  6. All the temps are in an acceptable range. With that said, I do not know if the laptop was under any kind of load. If it was then the laptop is doing great. You can check to see if CPUID does benchmark testing and if so then it will put the laptop under a load or stress as some refer to it as. I would only consider doing this if you are planning on doing some serious gamming or run some other software that may be very demanding on cpu, video card, hdd and even memory. Once again, don't know what you are planning to do with your laptop. So if you are just planning on using laptop for general use then no need to do a benchmark on it.

  7. It's time again for the annual 'Stella Awards'! For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico , where she purchased coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That's right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy.

    Here are the Stellas for year -- 2011:

    * SEVENTH PLACE *

    Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The store owners were understandably surprised by the verdict, considering the running toddler was her own son

    Start scratching!

    * SIXTH PLACE *

    Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles , California won $74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

    Scratch some more...

    * FIFTH PLACE *

    Terrence Dickson, of Bristol , Pennsylvania , who was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the garage to the house locked when Dickson pulled it shut. Forced to sit for eight, count 'em, EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner's insurance company claiming undue mental Anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish. We should all have this kind of anguish Keep scratching. There are more...

    Double hand scratching after this one..

    * FOURTH PLACE *

    Jerry Williams, of Little Rock, Arkansas, garnered 4th Place in the Stella's when he was awarded $14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten on the butt by his next door neighbor's beagle - even though the beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. Williams did not get as much as he asked for because the jury believed the beagle might have been provoked at the time of the butt bite because Williams had climbed over the fence into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a pellet gun.

    Pick a new spot to scratch, you're getting a bald spot..

    * THIRD PLACE *

    Amber Carson of Lancaster , Pennsylvania because a jury ordered a Philadelphia restaurant to pay her $113,500 after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke her tailbone. The reason the soft drink was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument. What ever happened to people being responsible for their own actions?

    Only two more so ease up on the scratching...

    *SECOND PLACE*

    Kara Walton, of Claymont , Delaware sued the owner of a night club in a nearby city because she fell from the bathroom window to the floor, knocking out her two front teeth. Even though Ms. Walton was trying to sneak through the ladies room window to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge, the jury said the night club had to pay her $12,000....oh, yeah, plus dental expenses. Go figure.

    Ok. Here we go!!

    * FIRST PLACE *

    This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner was: Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma , who purchased new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game, having driven on to the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set. The Oklahoma jury awarded her, are you sitting down? $1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home. If you think the court system is out of control, be sure to pass this one on.

  8. assuming you mean ergostand and not etgrostand then yes it should do the trick. Anytime you can get airflow under a laptop then you are much better off. You may want to download a small program to see exactly what temps you are actually getting before and after the cooling pad. Also, always check to make sure that the air vents, cooling fins and fan are clear of any dust buildup.

    Here are a couple of programs that you can try to watch your temps.

    There are other temp monitoring software out there but these work just fine.

    Let us know what kind of temps you are getting.

  9. suca41,

    What OS are you using?

    Did you format it and how did you format? (FAT32, NTFS, exFAT)

    Have you tried the flash drive on another computer?

    Info from Kingston website

    Is there any security or write protection feature available for this DataTraveler?

    Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:

    1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
    2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
    3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective. Contact Kingston Technical Support for further assistance.

  10. Are you trying to play these videos off of the backup drive? Have you tried to take one of the "currupted" videos and tranfer back to pc and see if it works that way?

    As far as the typing issue goes, that is common on laptops due to palm of your hand is touching the mouse pad. Some manufaturers have their own little mouse pad program that helps elimate this issue. You will have to see if your laptop as this program. For example, I have a Dell and the program is called Dell Touchpad and the setting in it is called Touch Check and from there you adjust the sensitivity.

    Not sure if there is a 3rd party program that you can download or not.

  11. Being that it is just 1 month old then you can always push this under warranty. Contact whoever made the laptop (Sony, Asus, Dell etc). They usually have a chat you can use but if not then just call them. You can also try MrFill's suggestion and see if that may help. Even though it is not the same dll that you have issues with but you can still get some good tips from it.

    You can try to do a system restore and see if this might help you out.

    update and run your AV program and Malware program in safe mode to make sure you dont have a virus or malware causing this issue. Malwarebytes program is free and is a wonderful program.

  12. No problem. I know you were looking for a fix but I do believe what you said that the files are currupted and it is possible that this happened as you said when you transfered to a backup drive. Can you please let us know what you used to backup with? did you move them just through windows or were you using a 3rd party software to backup your videos?

  13. Looks like you will have to do some work. It is not going to be easy,

    C/P

    If you want to install OSX on your Intel or AMD computer, your computer processor needs to support at least SSE2. Most current (2011) CPUs support SSE2 and SSE2

    Good luck and let us know if you decided to to this or not and if so how it went for you.

  14. juvinile,

    I know there is a way that it can be done successfully. I have read many times of how it was done but sadly it wasn't something I planned on doing so it didn't really sink in. So when I get back this evening I will do some research and find it again and get back with you. In the meantime, we have a great tech team and they may also find the answer for you before I get back.
