  1. When you were growing up, your parents probably regaled you with tales of having to get off the couch to change the channel on the TV while their dad climbed up on the roof to adjust the antenna. We suspect our children will grow up shocked to learn there was a time when phones didn’t take photos, record videos, play music, and allow you to play games—all at the same time! Here are five electronic items that will seem practically prehistoric in a few years’ time. 1. DVD Players With the growing popularity of streaming video services like Hulu and Netflix DVDs and DVD players are on their ways out. In fact, Netflix just raised the price of their service for customers who want to rent discs! If you still like the idea of watching on your fancy flat-screen TV, check out 16 gadgets that’ll help you create your own streaming home theatre. Alarm Clocks Alarm clocks (especially fun retro-styled designs) can look cute on a bedside table, but more and more people are turning to their cell phones—or even talking coffee makers!—to wake them up in the morning. If you’re resisting the urge to sleep with your cell, or merely want a soon-to-be-vintage accent for your nightstand, turn to check out 33 adorable clocks to accent your bedroom. http://www.kaboodle.com/gadgets/what-rocks/slideshow/cute-clocks?m_cid=byshcs011011hasbeen5 3. Point-and-Shoot Cameras We remember when a 2-megapixel digital camera was a big deal—and cost a good chunk of change. Now cell phones routinely come with built-in cameras with five or more megapixels! The added convenience of not having to carry two gadgets wherever you go is a big reason why more folks are opting to only take pics with their phones. 40 Gadgets to Help You Take the Best Photos http://www.kaboodle.com/gadgets/what-rocks/slideshow/photography-stuff?m_cid=byshcs011011hasbeen7 4. Laptops Even though laptops are smaller than ever, smartphones and tablets like Apple’s iPad are nearly as powerful and functional as a traditional laptop computer. These other devices are infinitely more slick to carry and use—especially with the use of peripherals like Bluetooth keyboards—and they’re starting to make laptop computers look like technological dinosaurs. Anything Wired Remember when your keyboard, computer mouse, and headphones all had to attach to something else in order to work? With more and more gadgets working via Bluetooth and WiFi, the age of wired devices is on its way out. 6. Hard Drives As cloud computing and cloud storage catches on, the necessity for individuals to own hard drives capable of holding hundreds of gigabytes of data will be dramatically reduced. The biggest advantage to cloud computing is the ability to access your data via the Internet from any computer or smartphone anywhere in the world, which makes it very appealing.
  2. "Shop staff refuse to sell whisky to great-grandmother, 92, because she couldn't prove she was over 18" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2056076/Shop-staff-refuse-sell-whisky-great-grandmother-92-prove-18.html Comical. A Similar incident happened to me last Christmas whilst purchasing a crate of beer from a local supermarket. I was asked if I was 25. "No, I'm 40 actually" I replied and eventually bought the booze. To be honest, I took it light heartedly and as a compliment but I doubt my sense of humour would've been the same if I were a frail 92 year old having to make a trip back home to find some I.D.
