desktop computer disk drive(c) windows xp pro

Even if U copy the files over U still need 2 make the reg entry's. So U cant. Only if U might have a full reg Bak U might but I wouldn't even bother. What U could try is to reinstall programs & point 2 the partition that has the old install info. Then U will still have the old program settings or configurations. That's really the best U can do. Scrap everything else but the program folder. When reinstalling UR programs install to the old directory. This wont work 100% because some programs keep config info in different folders. Like some keep config files in My docs & other places Program Files, Program Files (x86), Program Data, User, ect. So U would have 2 trace down each install than move that data over to the new install on the C drive. I know that in XP U don't have all the folders i just mentioned but I think U get my point.

    Blue Screen 0x0000008e

If U have a spare HDD try a fresh install on the spare drive. Just 2 see if U get the same problem. If U do then its a hardware issue. If U tested the Ram & it tested fine then its the board or CPU. Have U played with the chip @ all, maybe pulled it out 2 reapply thermal compound or something? I am just asking because it could b that when U reinstalled maybe 1 of the posts got bent & not going in properly. If & when these types of things happen its always nice 2 think back on what did U do just B4 the problem started. Install a new program. New hardware upgrade. Encounter a virus. Was it really hot in the room where the PC was in the days leading up 2 this. [u could have cooked the hardware] Moved the machine. When U have a hardware problem it will drive U nuts. I had 1 many years ago & it took me several months to find the problem because I thought it was everything else. It wasn't till I started to match-up the fact that the machine would be fine after sitting but after running then would act-up. Sometimes it would give me problems right away but it would be hot in the room on those days. So I concluded that it was heat. In-cleaning the machine I discovered a blown capacitor. Here's an image because it is easily overlooked. These R blown. The brown stuff on the 1 on the left should obviously not b there. So obviously that 1 is junk. And hence the problem. I thought it was the reg, Malware U name it; I was getting Blue screens & all that. If U want to learn chasing these problems will teach U. At least they did me. Just was not a good time it drove me out of business. That was my work PC & needed 2 do work not trouble shoot & learn everything about PCs on the fly. I couldn't do my drafting & prepare estimates so my work dried up, but the bills kept coming. All while the phone was ringing off the hook with people who wanted work done & the PC or it's problems made me nuts & looking back on it I think I had a break down mentally overall this. I didn't know of a good shop @ the time I could have brought it 2 & did want 2 pay an arm & a leg either. But that was then & this is now. Now I have 8 PCs & 3 laptops & the know how & resources to fix them all.
  3. Yeah the internet security does have fireWall. & I use MalwareBits too. Like I said B4 they playNice together. But I dont know anything about the Win Security. I will say that if is real-time running in the background U probably don't want it running with any other AV because they will fight for resources. I think once I was running 2 AVs together & one killed the other Avast & something else no fun, maybe it was NOD AVG foot print is small & as long as U have a decent amount of ran U will barely notice it. My PC has been up for 6 days & right now this is AVGs consumption.

    Kill Explorer

Okay so I keep a close eye on the background processes that run on my machine & have noticed that in Win7 explorer doesn't close its self & sometimes especially after days of being on my PC will have several explorer processes running in the backGround. I would normally just ruthlessly kill them but after trying it once ok maybe twice it made the machine force a shut down. I think it was .NetFrameWork that was unhappy forcing the shutDown. So I have been just tolerating it till tonight I setOut 4 a solution & found 1 I was surprised first how quick I found it & that it worked because I didn't save my work B4 doing this so I would have been SOL if it didn't work. AnyWay on with the Solution. First call up UR preferred taskManager Tap the Window button on the keyBoard. Or Click on the Windows orb which ever U prefer. Now push/holdDown "Shift+Ctrl" & rightClick on the start menu in some blank area. A subMenu comes up. Notice in the subMenu that it says "Exit Explorer" in the last item. Click it. Now kill all of the backGround explorers that U know shouldn't B running. Or kill-em All [i was only looking @ the 1s I knew shouldn't be running didnt look to see if any others were running but it would have just been 1 that always runs & sits lower on the hierarchy]. Ok; so now U have killed the exploers U dont want running. How do U get it running again? Easy. While the taskManager is still running or if U closed it "Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring backUp Task Manager" click on "File" then click on "NewTask" type explorer in2 the run command hit enter. BOoMBaby! The start menu will re-appear, but you might notice a few tray icons will be missing until you log off and back on. (or restart those applications) UR allSet. B4 No need 4 an after shot there is only going 2 b 1 "explorer" running when done. & I started it once I killed all of the others that were running.
  5. Love it I have been using it 4 7 years now & though I test others 2 try 2 replace AVG but I stay with them. Its the best 4 IMO. & I always recommend it. I will say that they R getting Ad happy now they want me 2 buy/activate everything they have. Some of it I just don't install because I know what I want & what I don't. But that is one of the things I like about it is that I can customize it down to the core app/program.
  6. I run AVG & MalwareBits. They play nicely together & low on resources & what 1 doesn't get the other does or @ least that's how it seems 2 me. I like Kas but it does use a lot of resources & I found its detection rate not 2 be as good as AVG. I know nothing about WinSecurity sorry so I cant help U there.

    LOCKED OUT OF MY PC

Well I said I would help U or try, but U posted this weeks ago. I forgot about U & this thread the only reason I am viewing it now is because i wanted 2 see what dt had 2 say about this. U still haven't updated me as 2 what type of platform UR running on so U must not want my help & just want 2 b a victim carrying on about how nobody believes U. What difference does it make either we-help U or we don't. Where do U think I learned how 2 do it not sitting around here waiting 4 some1 2 tell me how that's 4 sure. I stumbled on2 through Google just like how any1 who wants to find anything out does. Stop being so emotional & trying 2 run a guilt trip on us. UR only reading what U want 2 see because I already said I don't care & would try 2 help U. This can be done with or withOut a ROM but the bigger question is can U do it. If U wanted 2 do this the where have U been for the past few weeks just leaving us hanging like we R waiting around here 4 U. I checked back 4 a day or 2 & figure U solved it on UR own & left us hanging or U got arrested trying 2 do it... lolz....

    Asus Laptop Hard Drive

Well whatever U do clone that drive there R some hidden portions U don't see I guarantee. If U doubt me then just try a tool like Acronis Disk Director & U will see. I know my lenovo had 2 hidden. 1 system & the other recovery plus another 3 that where visible C D & some-other 1 I don't remember & it doesn't matter 2 me, because its cloned, & so if I ever need that info or configuration again I have it, but doubt that I will.

    Asus Laptop Hard Drive

I would say no U could partition it the way U want. But I will say that it could be that Asus figures that U would need enough room 4 UR Os & whatever U store on that side but I never store anything with my Os. I keep all my goodies on a separate partition just in case i have to reformat the Os I don't loose anything. What I would do is clone the disk as is. [Just so that U keep all OEM info] Then I would repartition the way I wanted it In fact I wouldn't have my C drive b any larger that 50-60 gig. The tool I would use 4 this is Acronis True Image Home.

how to install already downloaded softwares in ubuntu 12

I don't mind U asking us here but this information is easily found on Google. I am only telling U so that U can get the info U need faster & not be waiting on us 2 respond. Here is the search quarry I used 4 Google ::: install downloaded package on ubuntu This answer is from the first result Google gave me. Here U go Boss, I just ripped it from another site this is not my info

    windows xp pro

Should work depending on how new or old the disk is. Because what the manufactures & Windows have been doing is embedding some code that checks the Bios of the machine that the purposed OS will b installed on. But I would imagine that most if not all Win XP OSs that were distributed were done B4 this newest attempt of Windows 2 generate more revenue in licensing fees. Basically I would say that its 50/50. Either it will work or it wont. But even if it doesn't U could still do it U will just need to burn a disk with only the information needed 2 install or build the OS. Yeah & like DS said above. U will then just need to install all of the drivers. HP does a pretty good job of making it easy 2 find all drivers. U will really just need 2 know the make & model. kk, Have fun. dirty ;P
  13. Try this. I haven't used it but was playing around with it earlier 2day; it looks like if anything will work it would be this tool. Don't forget 2 thank the original up-loader & let use know how it worked out 4U. Oh & 2 answer UR question yeah I have Adobe X installed with No Problems since Oct. 2011 on 4 PCs. I think this is a silly question but where U connected during install? Could B the problem. It wouldn't hurt 2 get the removal tool & start @ square1. & take UR time & make sure that Ur not connected. Not just blocking with fireWall because some Programs R very tricky & use other Programs connections like 4 example "Explorer" or something along those lines, or could B in UR trusted dataBase 4 UR fireWall. Thats all I got, Enjoy

I don't care whos PC it is. odiebugs is the 1 doing it & so if its not theirs then they will be going 2 jail. Copy paste problem

I don't have a solution just yet, I had checked back & U didn't comment @ the time so I thought this was solved. Anyway that has happened 2 me also. & I think I just restored a BAK. Thats my thing I hate PC problems so I always make a BAK. Should a problem arise I might, & I mean might try 2 trouble shoot it. But I generally just restore the BAK because it only takes 20 minutes to do. I could setup the restore make a cup of coffee talk 2 the family or a friend & when I come back 2 the PC its all fixed nice-nice 4 me. I cant hunt down a solution that quickly & apply it so I don't even try. Plus sometimes the fix doesn't even work, so by trying it I just made things worse & then have 2 undo it. Now I am not speaking about System Restore I don't use it, but I would do it on some1 elses PC though. lolz... I am speaking about Ghost or Acronis. I haven't heard any bad things about Win Restore image service, but I haven't looked in2 it either. Anyway if U R still having this problem I would start with the drivers for the inputDevises check-em out. Maybe try different input devises. Also R they cordless maybe batteries. But start by checking the drivers & maybe update them could be corrupt.

    youtube video recorder extension

If U have a download manager like jDown or IDM then Y not just download the video? Right click & "Copy the video URL" they will grab it from the clipBoard & then U can just down it rather than record it. If U really wanted to record it U could use Camtasia or something along those lines. If U R looking for a FF addon or plugin I am sure they have them but I don't like adding a lot of junk 2 my browser so I don't know but sure they have them U will just have 2 check it out.

    windows 7 installation?

Glad 2 hear. & Always H ppy 2 help. Thanks 4 Getting Back 2 US. U should try 2 make a clone of that drive so U don't lose UR OS & Recovery Partition. U dont need 2 buy a external anything if U have a desktop. Well that is if U can get 2 the drive in the NoteBook. I know I have worked on some very small 1s that I had 2 take almost the whole thing apart 2 get 2 the drive. That just really wasn't worth it. But if U flip it over & U should see a bay 4 the HD. Some like my lenovo its a cover the I would remove 4 all the HD the ram wifi & blue tooth. But make sure U have screwdrivers that fit. They seem to be made with a soft metal & even if u have the right size screwdrivers tend to get worn & could strip over time if U play with them enough or over tighten them. ****************** If U pull the covers off of what ever bays U have & U don't see the HDD. Then just seal it up unless U have replaced a MoBo or feel comfortable doing things along those lines, because the HDD is buried under somethings & is a real pain. All those little screws. ************************************************** If U get it out then just slip off the adapter & UR good 2 go. Hook the HDD up 2 the desktop & clone. *******The adapter gets brittle from the heat over time so be gentile.**************

    windows 7 installation?

I might b 2 late 4 U but most pre-installed OSs have a recovery/restore portion. The option is either available while the PC posts in BIOS or some let U do it from the OS. Like my lenovo has a button right next 2 the power button that does this. [ I think that where they placed the button is an accident waiting 2 happen, but they didn't ask me when designing it. [ I could see 1 of my kids accidentally pushing this button, or even the wife.]] Good-Luck, dirty
