    Corned Beef and Cabbage

    Ingredients:

        1 corned beef brisket (about 4 pounds or larger) with spice packet
        1 coffee filter and kitchen twine
        2 bottles (12 ounces each) lager-style beer (optional - adds flavor and is a tenderizer)
        3 cups Swanson® 50% Less Sodium Beef Broth or Swanson® Unsalted Beef Flavored Stock
        2  large onion, peeled and cut in quarters
        10 small red potato, unpeeled
        5-6 medium carrot, peeled and cut into 3-inch-long pieces
        1  head green cabbage (2-3 pounds), cut into 6 wedges
         2 fresh garlic clove

    Steps:

    1. Pour the contents of the spice packet and bay leaf into the coffee filter.  Tie with the twine to make a bundle.
    2. Place the beef  (best side up) into a 6-quart saucepot.  Pour in the beer, and broth.  Add spice bundle.  Heat over medium-high heat to a boil.  Reduce the heat to low.  Cover and cook for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
    3. Add the onions, potatoes and carrots to the saucepot.  Cover and cook for 30 minutes. Add the cabbage.  Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the beef and vegetables are fork-tender.  Remove and discard the spice bundle.
    4. Remove meat to a cutting board and let rest 10 to 15 minutes. Cut across the grain and serve in a bowl; ladle vegetables and broth over the top.

    prep time: 20 minutes
    total time: 3 hr 20 minutes
    serves: 6-8 people

    NOTE:
    If brisket  does not come with a spice packet, use a teaspoon of black peppercorns and two crushed bay leaves in coffee filter (some ppl like crunching on peppercorns, so throw them in loose & serve with the cabbage)

    If you choose not to use the beer, replace with water or more beef broth

    Optional:
    Pour juices into 1-quart saucepan heat to boiling. Mix  1
    tablespoon cornstarch  and cold water until smooth; stir into juices. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce has thickened. Serve sauce with beef and vegetables.

  2. Bangers-Mash-with-Guiness-Onion-Gravy-1-

    One week and counting folks, and then it’ll be time to break out the beer and bangers!

    St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be complete without Bangers & Mash with Guinness Onion Gravy. It’s a tradition.

    Ingredients:

    6 large banger sausages
    2 Tbsp. olive oil
    Guinness Onion Gravy:
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 Tbsp. olive oil
    2 medium yellow onions thinly sliced
    2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    2 cups Blonde Guinness Beer
    1 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard
    1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
    2 tsp. granulated sugar
    1/2 tsp. kosher salt
    1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
    Mashed Potatoes:
    2 lb. russet potatoes
    4 Tbs. 1/2 stick butter
    1/2 cup whole milk
    2 tsp. kosher salt
    1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

    Instructions:

    Guinness Onion Gravy: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and the onions and saute, stirring often, until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
    Add the flour and cook until golden brown, 2-3 minutes.
    Add the Guinness, Dijon, worcestershire, sugar, salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer until thickened, about 8-10 minutes.
    Bangers: Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add bangers and cook until evenly browned on both sides and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes.
    Mashed potatoes: Peel potatoes and cut into large chunks. Place in a saucepan with water to cover, salt the water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with a potato masher. Add the butter and milk and continue to mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
    To assemble: Place mashed potatoes on plate, top with a sausage and gravy.

    Prep Time: 30 mins
    Cook Time: 1 hr
    Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins
    Servings: 4

  3. 2a13b7bd-8cf9-441e-b011-ba616f4a2d45.jpg

    Ingredients:

    2 cups All-Purpose Flour
    2 tablespoons brown or granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3 tablespoons butter, cold and cut into 1/4-inch cubes
    1 egg
    3/4 cup buttermilk
    1/2 cup raisins (optional)

    Steps:

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Gradually add in butter and mix with paddle attachment until crumbly.
    2. In a small, separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Pour into flour mixture and mix until just combined. The dough should be shaggy and a little wet, but not too much. If it's so wet that you can't hold it in your hands, add 1 tbsp flour at a time until it comes together. Do not knead.
    3. Fold in raisins, if desired.
    4. Shape dough into a round loaf and place in the center of a lightly greased cast-iron pan or a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Cut a 1/4-inch deep cross on the top of the loaf. Bake 30-35 minutes or until golden brown (you may need to tent aluminum foil over the top of the loaf in the oven if it's browning too fast).
    5. Serve warm.

  5. UPDATE:

    the IsShortcut value was already present in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Lnkfile.

    i noticed there is no value data associated with that value.

    is it suppose to be that way ?

    PS:

    in my registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Lnkfile is listed as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

    (notice the small "L", not capital "L")

  6. hi Rædwulf,

    tnkx for the info.

    about 2 weeks ago i ran a program called Registry First Aid 3 or 4 times.

    it fixed the folder opening problem i was having, but still having some problems with bookmarks.

    i will try your advice & see if it helps that problem.

    i doubt if i will ever run across this problem again, but i am burning it to flash drive for future reference if needed.

    tnkx again

  7. hi uk666 & bigbenn,

    uk666,

    not having problems opening/running .exe files with 1 click. (1 click setup)

    all extentions are opening fine (.rar, ..zip., .txt, .nfo .avi, .mkv, ... ...)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    bigbenn,
    my first PC has a 20 GB HD, (the largest you could get at the time) & 364 MB memory)
    i also backup all programs (not HD image) on flash drives with large data storage.
    if HD crashes, i know i can fdisk, reformat, & rebuild it.
    my software & bookmarks are backuped on 3 seperate flash drives.
    although clicking on a bookmark on HD or flash drive, gives me a error message, i can r-click a bookmark, go to "Properties", & copy the URL & paste it in the address bar of a browser, & i will go to that site.
    i have been updating the old bookmarks & all goes well when opening.
    i have accepted the fact that i am going to reformat the HD & re-install all needed software & updates.
    this will take time & LOTS of reboots !
    it is just a matter of when i want to take the time to do it (it will take several days)
    PS:
    if you are running a x64 bit OS (& your PC can handle it) you can use between 8-192 GB of memory, (depending on which version of Win7 you are using) if running a x86 bit OS, it can only handle about 4 GB memory
    i am running a 500 GB HD, more then enough space for whati do.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    i thank both of you for all your help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
