New Windows RT vs iPad TV ad has Siri on the defensive again

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, Microsoft started a new marketing campaign that compared Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets against those of Apple's iPad. The first TV ad pitted the Asus VivoTab Smart against the iPad, with the voice of Siri admitting it could not do all of the things the Windows 8 device could do.

Now Microsoft has begun running a new commercial, this time with the Windows RT-based Dell XPS 10 shown next to an iPad. As posted on YouTube, the ad shows Siri giving it up to the Dell XPS 10 for its Start screen UI, which can be zoomed in and out of, while the iOS interface stays the same. The XPS 10 has a microSD card slot for storage expansion, which Siri admits the iPad doesn't have. There's also the Snap view feature to let two Windows apps run at the same time, which again Siri states the iPad cannot accomplish.

The final comparison is cost with Apple's 32 GB iPad shown with its $599 price tag compared to the $399 price for the Dell XPS 10 (which, by the way, is suppose to be a limited time offer). We suspect that more of these iPad-Windows 8/RT tablet commercials will be released over the summer.
