Will Steve Ballmer pull the trigger on Microsoft's reorganization Thursday?

Recommended Posts

We have been hearing that Microsoft is 'this close' to launching a major restructuring of its business divisions and its executives for over a month now, but now a new report says that the wait may be close to being over. AllThingsD.com claims that the changes could be revealed later this week, possibly on Thursday.

The report claims that the final details are still being hashed out by Ballmer and adds that fact is making some of the company's major executives a bit nervous. Indeed, the story claims that it is not yet clear just how current Microsoft Office president Kurt DelBene or Microsoft Business Solutions president Kirill Tatarinov will fit in the new company structure; the story even hints they could be leaving Microsoft when everything is revealed. AllThingsD.com also claims that Ballmer has received advice on these decisions from Ford CEO, Alan Mulally.

The current rumors claim that Windows leader Julie Larson-Green will be in charge of Microsoft's hardware products such as the Surface tablets and, most interestingly, the Xbox division, along with Microsoft's music and TV services. The current head of the Windows Phone division, Terry Myerson, is rumored to be in line to oversee all of Windows development in the new order.

Satya Nadella, who currently leads Microsoft's server business, is rumored to lead a new cloud services division in the reorganization and Qi Lu, the head of Microsoft's online services, would also lead a newly organized division that would be in charge of Office, Bing and Skype. Skype president Tony Bates would stick with Microsoft in this new role and will reportedly be in charge of acquisitions and relations with outside software developers.
