New batch of five Windows 8.1 Preview fixes released

Recommended Posts

Microsoft released some bug fixes for the public preview version of Windows 8.1 less than a week after it officially became available to download. Today, as part of Microsoft's monthly "Patch Tuesday" event, the company released a few more bug fixes for the Windows 8.1 preview.

As listed by WinBeta.org, the five bug fixes are now available to download via the Windows Update feature and are as follows:

  • KB2863147: No notification about the expiration date of Windows 8.1 Preview
  • KB2865946: Smart card PIN disclosure after an automatic restart for Windows Update in Windows 8.1 Preview
  • KB2866512: Internet Explorer 11 Preview freezes or crashes while loading a webpage that contains widgets
  • KB2866518: Can’t view OWA inbox in Internet Explorer 11 Preview
  • KB2866537: Windows Store app instability after an app update in Windows 8.1 Preview

Since this is a public preview version of Windows 8.1, it's likely that users will see more frequent updates for the OS beyond just the normal patches that are released for all versions of Windows on every second Tuesday. As we reported earlier this week, Microsoft plans to launch the final version of Windows 8.1 to its PC OEM partners sometime in late August. There's no word yet on when it will be made available to the general public.
