Half Monk 697 Report post Posted July 25, 2013 NVIDIA's Tegra line of mobile processors are inside a large number of smartphones and tablets, including Microsoft's Surface RT, which has the Tegra 3 chip. NVIDIA's current version is the quad-core Tegra 4, which the company is using inside its upcoming SHIELD portable game console. But what about the future? NVIDIA is already prepping its next generation mobile processor, which is currently going by the code name Project Logan. In a new blog post, NVIDIA talks more about the chip, which uses the same Kepler architecture that's currently in the company's latest desktop PC graphics chip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx0t-WJFXzo&feature=player_embedded NVIDIA knows its much better to show than to tell, and that's what they have done in two new YouTube videos. One of them revisits Ira, a human face graphics demo that was first shown off a few months ago that used a high end Kepler desktop chip running at 250 watts. Now, that same demo is shown running on a very early, but very thin, build of Project Logan, which uses just two to three watts of power. While the Project Logan Ira demo is slightly less detailed than the one running on the full Kepler desktop chip, to the human eye they look practically the same. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpvfTuaO75k&feature=player_embedded NVIDIA also uploaded yet another demo video, this time showing how Project Logan renders a simulated island. Again, the visuals nearly match those when compared to the graphics that are capable from the current high end PC graphics cards. While not shown in video form, Epic Games demoed Unreal Engine 4, their current game graphics engine, running on Project Logan, at this week's SIGGRAPH 2013 conference, where they also announced the 12GB Quadro K6000 GPU.
