Half Monk 697 Report post Posted July 26, 2013 When Google announced on Wednesday that it was selling its Chromecast streaming TV dongle for $35, the company also threw in a nice incentive: Three free months of Netflix, which normally would cost roughly $24. That promotion is now dead, thanks to the early but massive sales for the Chomecast. The Los Angeles Times reports that, according to a statement from Google, "Due to overwhelming demand for Chromecast devices since launch, the 3-month Netflix promotion (which was available in limited quantities) is no longer available." Indeed, the Google Play website is currently showing that orders for Chromecast made today won't go out for three or four weeks. Other sites, like BestBuy.com and Amazon.com, have sold out of their allocations for the Chromecast. Best Buy is scheduled to start selling the dongle in its retail store on Sunday. It would appear that Google's latest attempt to enter the TV world is an early success, at least in terms of sales. As we reported earlier, Google claims that Chromecast is not supposed to be a replacement for their earlier, and lackluster, Google TV OS and indeed the company says it hopes to allow for Chromecast to connect to Google TV devices.
