NVIDIA CEO: 'We're working really hard on' second-gen Surface RT

Recommended Posts

Microsoft hasn't offered any details about its future Surface tablets so far, although its CEO Steve Ballmer told employees at a recent internal meeting that the next generation versions of the tablets are currently being tested. Today, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has confirmed that the chip maker is working with Microsoft on a new version of the Surface RT tablet.

Speaking to CNet, Huang stated, "Now we're going to bring it with the second-generation Surface. We're working really hard on it, and we hope that it's going to be a big success." The original Surface RT, which launched in October and recently got a big permanent price cut, uses NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor.

You may remember that Huang was the one that prayed to the "Outlook god" to bring a version of Outlook to Windows RT. The Outlook god (or the Outlook development team at Microsoft) responded with a version of Outlook RT that's being included with the Windows 8.1 update. Today, Huang seemed pleased with the release of Outlook RT, stating, "It is the killer app for Windows."

Qualcomm is also expected to have its quad-core Snapdragon 800 processors in some upcoming Windows RT tablets, but so far there's no word if Microsoft might use the chip in yet another Surface RT tablet.
