Samsung Galaxy S5 launch day sales break S4's record

Recommended Posts

Samsung has made a habit of breaking its own records when it comes to the Galaxy series flagships. Keeping up with the trend, the South Korean company's latest flagship Galaxy S5 broke the launch day sales records of its predecessor Galaxy S4, according to a GSMArena report.

The Galaxy S5, which was released last Friday simultaneously in 125 countries around the world, has sold 30 percent more handsets on its launch day than the Galaxy S4. In fact, in some European markets, sales were double that of its predecessor. The smartphone is scheduled to be launched in 25 more markets in the next few days, bringing the total number to 150.

Although Samsung hasn't yet officially announced S5's launch day sales, an unnamed Samsung representative said that sales so far are in the millions. There have also been reports of stock depletion in many places.

The Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1-inch HD display and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. It's being regarded as one of the best high-end smartphones in the market. Its SIM-free units are priced around $699 in the US and around $599 in most of Europe and Asia.
