  1. 10 Hilariously Honest Notes From Kids Whether it is their total ignorance of social norms or their lack of understanding of how the world works, kids definitely do say the coolest things. That is probably why this list of weird things that kids have written to their parents or teachers is so hilarious.
  2. Hackers take over microphones on Windows PCs to stealing hundreds of gigs of data Hackers targeting people in Ukraine have come up with something unusual: they use the microphones on Windows PCs to steal audio recordings of conversations, screenshots, documents and passwords. It is recording audio near compromised systems by stealthily switching on the computers' microphones. In a blog post, the company said it had confirmed that at least 70 people, from various sectors like critical infrastructure, media and scientific research, had fallen victim to the malware that was carrying out the cyber surveillance. While malware that takes over video cameras on PCs or laptops can be blocked by placing a piece of tape over the camera, the microphone on a PC or laptop requires dismantling to disable. The method of infection is through specially crafted phishing emails that trick users into opening Microsoft Office documents that have malicious macros. The main downloader is then extracted from the document by a malicious VB script; it was detected by just four of 54 anti-virus products that CyberX tested. CyberX said most of the targets had been in Ukraine but there were smaller numbers in Russia, Saudi Arabia and Austria. "Many targets are located in the self-declared separatist states of Donetsk and Luhansk, which have been classified as terrorist organisations by the Ukrainian government," the company wrote. It said that the operation appeared to be well-funded as there would be considerable infrastructure needed at the back-end to store, decrypt and analyse the gigabytes of unstructured data that were being captured each day. The CyberX team said the operation had some similarities to one discovered by anti-virus firm ESET in May last year which was christened Operation Groundbait. But, on closer examination, they had found that Operation BugDrop was more sophisticated. For one, the use of Dropbox was clever because Dropbox traffic would not be normally blocked by firewalls in corporate set-ups. How Is BugDrop being spread? It will not surprise you to learn how BugDrop infects a computer. Like nearly every other strain of malware, you read about today, BugDrop is being spread via phishing emails (just like recent attacks against Gmail and PayPal users). Office documents laced with malicious macros deliver the "dropper" which injects the actual malware to a victim's computer. So far, only a handful of anti-malware scanners detect BugDrop. That is not great news, though security software never has to get involved if users are trained to recognize suspicious emails and resist the temptation to open shady attachments.

  5. Microsoft confirms second major Windows 10 update will land in 2017 Microsoft has confirmed that it will be releasing a second major update for Windows 10 later this year, following the Creators Update which is due to arrive soon (most likely in April). The confirmation comes from the Ignite Australia conference, where Microsoft showed a slide which outlined Windows 10’s release cadence (as spotted and posted by Twitter user Rafael Rivera, an engineer and technical contributor to Thurrott.com). The slide (see below) shows the imminent Creators Update and a further update scheduled for later this year which unfortunately isn’t named – it’s merely called the ‘second update in 2017’. There is no specific date given for either, with a timeframe, which is still marked as TBD (to be determined). However, over at Thurrott.com, sources have indicated a rough release date which is reportedly October or November. That certainly makes sense, and it would give Microsoft a good six months between the Creators Update and its successor; plenty of time to hammer out the latter. Although it does go against what we have heard on the grapevine before, namely that, the second update might follow quite quickly on the heels of the Creators Update. But then, when we heard this previous chatter, we’ve got to admit we weren’t convinced this would be the case anyway. The second big update for 2017 is likely to be our initial taste of Project Neon, a fresh new look for the Windows 10 interface which will apply a good deal of polish, and bring back some familiar elements from Windows 7. At this point, it looks like a smart set of changes for the UI, so fingers crossed it is realized this year. People Bar The People Bar, known as MyPeople, will provide quicker access to your most important contacts right from the taskbar. Additionally, the People Bar will allow you to easily share documents, pictures, and much more with your favourite account right from the People Bar on the Creators Update. Additionally, users will also be able to interact with their contacts from different apps such as Skype, Xbox, Outlook Mail and much more right from the taskbar. These features will be coming to Windows 10 with the Creators Update in early 2017.
  6. Woman kicked boyfriend out of bed for 'snoring' but he was having heart attack Lewis Little, 25, with son Tyler and partner Lisa Lee A YOUNG mum kicked her boyfriend out of bed for snoring, before discovering the noise was actually his dying breaths after his heart stopped beating. Heartbroken Lisa Lee says she had been assured by medics that her partner Lewis Little, who suffered from a rare heart condition called Brugada syndrome, was a low risk sufferer of the disorder. But he died suddenly in the night, aged 25, and the snoring sound Lisa heard was actually the air leaving his body and passing through the vocal chords. The mum-of-one has now started a petition to get people with the rare condition fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a device which restarts the heart. She believes an ICD would have saved her boyfriend's life. Lisa, 25, said: "We were told that Lewis would have a long, happy and healthy life - but he died one year after diagnosis. "When we were in bed I just thought he was snoring, so I kicked him out of the bed and told him to shut up. "But I felt that the sheets were wet and knew something was wrong. I turned the lights on and his face was purple - he wasn't breathing. "I called an ambulance and it felt like it took forever. They pronounced him dead at the hospital. I later found out that the snoring sound was the air leaving his body. The couple, from Ashington, Northumberland, UK, visited both the Wansbeck Hospital, in Ashington and the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle, for regular check ups after learning about Lewis' condition, but say they were assured that he was "low-risk". Lewis, who worked as an agency worker, lived a completely normal and active life and was not prescribed any medication for the condition. The sales assistant said: "I know I can't change what happened to my family, but I just want to save other families from going through the same grief because of Brugada. "Lewis should have had the option to have an ICD fitted, but he wasn't "high risk" enough. Things like this can't be categorised. "Lewis was my soul mate. He would always say to me that he would propose - he had already picked out our wedding song. "It has just put everything into perspective, life is so short and I feel like I was very naive to think that nothing like this would ever happen." Brugada syndrome Brugada syndrome is an uncommon, but serious, heart condition which can result in abnormally rapid heart rhythms that can cause palpitations or fainting. The problem can be genetic, or may be passed on in families but it is possible for people with the condition to have no symptoms at all. The condition is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young, healthy people and may not be diagnosed because there are no visible abnormalities. thesun

  8. Then He Gets Home Bob left work one Friday evening. But it was payday, so instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend partying with his friends and spending his entire wages. When he finally appeared at home on Sunday night, he was confronted by his angry wife and was barraged for nearly two hours with a tirade befitting his actions. Finally his wife stopped the nagging and said to him, "How would you like it if you didn't see me for two or three days?" He replied, "That would be fine with me." Monday went by and he didn’t see his wife. Tuesday and Wednesday came and went with the same results. But on Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye
  9. Create a local account in Windows 10 Windows 10 doesn't make it easy or obvious to create a secondary local account. By default, the account you create when you first install or upgrade to Windows 10 uses your Microsoft account. Microsoft wants you to do this so you can easily hook into all of Microsoft’s online services, such as the Windows Store and OneDrive. But if you’d rather keep your stuff on the desktop—at least as much as possible — or don’t want another member of your family interacting with Microsoft’s cloud then creating a local account would be the better choice. To get started, open the Settings app and select Accounts. If you want to create a local account for yourself, click Your account > Sign in with a local account instead and follow the wizard. In this tutorial, however, we’re creating a local account independent of your primary one. You can use this to add a local account for a child, another adult, or even yourself if you want to operate Unix-style with no automatic administrator privileges. Go to Settings > Family & other users > Add someone else to this PC. You can’t create a local account using Windows 10’s “Your family” account settings. On the next screen, click “The person I want to add doesn’t have an email address. Now, Microsoft will take you to a screen where you can create a Microsoft account with Windows 10. We don’t want to use that, of course so we’ll choose the option at the very bottom of the screen that says “Add a user without a Microsoft account.” Now we’re getting somewhere. All you have to do on this screen is enter a user name, a password (twice), password hint, and then click Next. That’s it! You now have a local account to use as you wish. While some of Microsoft’s cloud features are turned off by default with a local account, others are still active, including OneDrive, Wi-Fi Sense, and Cortana. Many of these are opt-in features, but to make sure they aren’t constantly bugging you or sending data to the cloud

  11. Brave: A Privacy Focused Browser With Built-in Torrent Streaming Brave is a new privacy and security focused web browser with built-in support for torrent downloading and streaming. Powered by the novel Web Torrent technology, Brave can download torrents, through magnet links, directly from the browser After a reign of roughly a decade, basic old-fashioned BitTorrent clients have lost most of their appeal today. While they are still one of the quickest tools to transfer data over the Internet, the software became somewhat outdated with the rise of video streaming sites and services. It also supports torrent downloads out of the box, and even instant torrent streaming. To find out more, torrentfreak reached out to lead developer Brian Bondy, who co-founded the project with his colleague Brendan Eich. Bondy says that Brave significantly improves browsing speeds while shielding user’s again malicious ads. It also offers a wide range of privacy and security features such as HTTPS Everywhere, script blocking, built-in adblocker and third party cookie blocking. What people should keep in mind though, considering Braves focus on privacy, is that torrent transfers are far from anonymous. Without a VPN or other anonymizer, third party tracking outfits are bound to track the downloads or streams. While torrent downloading in a browser is not completely new (Opera has a similar feature, for example) Brave also supports torrent streaming. This means that users can view videos instantly, as they would do on a streaming site. “WebTorrent support lets Brave users stream torrents from their favourite sites right from the browser. There is no need to use a separate program. This makes using torrents a breeze for beginners, a group that has sometimes found the technology a challenge to work with,” Bondy says. Brave is currently available a variety of platforms including Windows, Linux, OS X, Android, and iOS. torrentfreak
  12. Kim Dotcom extradition to US can go ahead, New Zealand high court rules The high court in New Zealand has ruled Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom can be extradited to the United States to face a multitude of charges including money laundering and copyright breaches. US authorities had appealed for Dotcom’s extradition to face 13 charges including allegations of conspiracy to commit racketeering, copyright infringement, money laundering and wire fraud. The German national, who has permanent residency in New Zealand, faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted in the US of piracy, which authorities say cost copyright owners hundreds of millions of dollars. It is nearly five years since Dotcom, a self-described “internet freedom fighter”, was arrested in a dramatic police raid on his mansion near Auckland after the FBI shut down Megaupload’s servers. Dotcom claimed Megaupload was a genuine file-sharing site that did its best to police copyright infringement but had 50 million daily users and could not control every aspect of their activity. Denying any wrongdoing, Dotcom has accused US authorities of pursuing a vendetta against him on behalf of politically influential Hollywood studios. The FBI alleges Megaupload netted more than US$175m in criminal proceeds and cost copyright owners more than US$500m by offering pirated content. A statement from Dotcom’s barrister Ron Mansfield said the outcome was “extremely disappointing” but his legal team were far from defeated and planned to appeal the extradition order in the “politically charged and misunderstood case”.

  16. 3 Minute Management Course Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour. Before she says a word, Bob says, "I'll give you $800 to drop that towel." After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob. After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, "Who was that?" "It was Bob the next door neighbour," she replies. "Great!" the husband says, "did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?" Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure. Lesson 2: A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest removed his hand. Changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest apologized "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak." Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, "Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory." Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, opportunities for advancement will pass right by you. Lesson 3: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, "I'll give each of you just one wish." "Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world." Puff! She's gone. "Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life." Puff! He's gone. "OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch." Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

    Amish Elevator

Amish Elevator A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father were in a shopping mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, ‘What is this Father?’ The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, ‘Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.’ While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son….. ‘Go get your Mother’

  20. Monopoly Is Killing The Thimble If you buy a game of Monopoly in the future, the family of game tokens will soon look very different. It has been part of the game since it was added in 1935, but soon it will be replaced by something more 21st century. So, suggestions include a dinosaur, a rubber duck, an emoji and a hashtag. Hasbro is holding a worldwide contest to let people choose the eight tokens to be included in the next generation of the property acquisition game, based on the real streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Monopoly fans cast four million votes last month to decide which of the board game's classic eight tokens should stay around -- and which gets the ax. The results are in Say goodbye to the thimble. This means that the thimble token -- which has been around since 1935 -- won't be included in the next version of the classic Monopoly board game slated to hit stores this fall. The thimble's fate is the result of an online vote Monopoly parent Hasbro (HAS) held last month at VoteMonopoly.com, marking the first time in Monopoly's 82-year history that Hasbro crowdsourced the future of the game. Winners will be announced on March 19 and will be included in games hitting shelves this August. Voting has now ended, but keep an eye on the website to find out what the victors will be. http://www.votemonopoly.com There were eight different categories of new items that the public could choose from What were the original Monopoly pieces Since Monopoly was introduced in the 1930s, many of the playing pieces have come and gone. Some have stuck around since its launch, and others have been ditched. Monopoly enthusiasts will know that there used to be six items in the famous playing game’s line-up. The original six were: The top hat The thimble The iron (now retired) The shoe The battleship The cannon (now retired) In 1999, a sack of money beat a pig and a plane to be added to the board but it was retired less than a decade later. A few more options were added in 1935 and 1936: The race car The purse (now retired) The rocking horse (now retired) The lantern (now retired) And a further collection were added in the 1950s and later: Scottie dog Wheelbarrow Horse and rider (now retired) Sack of money (now retired) Cat (new in 2013) What versions of Monopoly are there? This isn’t the first time the public have been given their say on which piece will take them past GO. In 2013, a vote meant that the iron was replaced by a cat, but there are many other editions available other than the classic board game. There are many other cities other than London that are featured, such as Chicago edition, a New York-opoly and a New Zealand edition. And then the sky is the limit for themed options that have hit shelves since its launch. Some of the most creative include a Walking Dead Survival edition, a 007 James Bond Collector’s edition, a Beatles' Collector’s Edition and even a Sonic the Hedgehog Collector’s edition.

  22. Last Night Of Lovin After his annual checkup, Bob learns that he has a rare disease and 12 hours to live. His wife tearfully says, "Honey, I'm going to give you a night you'll never forget." They make passionate love with passion they haven't felt in years. When they're done, Bob asks his wife, "Can we do it again?" This time it's even more passionate. Later, as she is about to doze off, Bob gives her a nudge and says, "Honey, I know it's getting late, but I think we can do it one more time." "That's easy for you to say," she complains. "You don't have to get up in the morning."
  23. Yahoo warns users about data breaches tied to past attacks Yahoo, based n Sunnyvale, Calif., is warning individual users that their online accounts may have been compromised in a massive data breach it reported late last year Yahoo is warning some users their online accounts may have been attacked by a "state-sponsored attacker" between 2015 and 2016, and linked to a massive data breach reported last year. Yahoo confirmed on Wednesday (15-02-2017) it notified users about the breach but declined to say how many accounts were affected. Bob Lord, Yahoo's chief information security officer, told users that a forged cookie might have been used to access their accounts. "Our outside forensic experts have been investigating the creation of forged cookies that could allow an intruder to access users' accounts without a password," the email read. "Based on the ongoing investigation, we believe a forged cookie may have been used in 2015 or 2016 to access your account. We have connected some of the cookie forging activity to the same state-sponsored actor believed to be responsible for the data theft we disclosed on Sept. 22, 2016." Yahoo had reported the data breach affected more than 500 million users in late 2014. Three months later, in December, Yahoo reported that data of more than 1 billion user accounts were stolen in August 2013. In the latest warning, the company said the hackers gained access to users' accounts without passwords. We invalidated the forged cookies and hardened our systems to secure them against similar attacks," Yahoo said in the email. "We continuously enhance our safeguards and systems that detect and prevent unauthorized access to user accounts." The warning comes as Verizon Communications, in negotiations to buy Yahoo, may be seeking a discount of $250 million because of the data breaches. Yahoo recommended that users avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious email messages. The company asked users to consider adopting its authentication tool that eliminates the need for a password.
  24. Here's the 'Stealth' Case Apple Uses to Conceal iPhone Prototypes During Transport Long before Apple takes the wraps off a new iPhone, the smartphone goes through months of design work, testing, and production between Apple's headquarters in Cupertino and its manufacturing partners in China. It is during this time that iPhone parts usually begin to leak, despite Apple's best efforts to double down on secrecy. Nevertheless, noted leaker Sonny Dickson has provided MacRumors with a closer look at a few known measures the company takes to hide iPhone prototypes and prevent potential leaks. Foremost, Dickson said an iPhone prototype travels across the world in a "stealth" case designed to prevent onlookers from seeing how it looks. The case conceals most of the iPhone, while it has yellow "security" tape along the sides that would show any tampering by somebody trying to get it open. The prototype is accompanied by a "passport" at all times for quality assurance/control testing, according to Dickson. "Each component or product that is tested they document in the page," said Dickson. "The person writes their initials next to it and any notes about it passing or failing or any other comments. It makes its way through each test/person. It then is finally sent with its 'passport' from China to Apple." As mentioned, these efforts have not entirely prevented iPhone prototypes from leaking. A mostly accurate picture of the iPhone 7 Plus with a dual-lens camera leaked in March 2016, six months before Apple unveiled the device, while an Apple engineer infamously left a disguised iPhone 4 at a bar near Cupertino in 2010. Apple will reportedly begin production of a trio of new iPhones, including a 5.8-inch model with an edge-to-edge OLED display, as early as next quarter, so part leaks should begin to surface around that time if history repeats itself.
