can't create or leave homegroup win 7x64

Recommended Posts

Wife's laptop won't let her do anything with the homegroup. She can't view the password, change password, create a homegroup. I am curious if anyone has seen this problem before. I suggest a full reformat. Her os is totally legit version. X64 home premium I think. I'm guessing the stupid HP software is half the problem.

Frogger,

I don't believe it is the HP software that is on there causing this issue.

Here are some really great articles on setting up homegroup, turning it on or off and trouble shooting. Read all and you should me good to go.

Please verify your version of win 7

Thanks. I'll check to make sure IP v6 is enabled. That's probably the issue. She still wants to re-install tho using her HP backup dvd's. I'd rather have her use a win7 ultimate disc, then find drivers.... but we'll see. Hopefully I get it working better.

you can't use the Homegroup naming convention in Win7....try Workgroup in set up, it should work

try daytrader's solution. Workgroup is the default OU for Windows home/soho network setups. you could just rename your group alltogether and make sure ALL pc's are in the same named unit (group). this may sound dumb, but I've come across such, make sure you are running as admin. you can't hardly do anything without that admin privilege. thats why most of us network admins give office troublemakers different privilges to different OU's in the network. hee...hee :P

I've tried the http://helpdeskgeek....t-to-homegroup/ link and done everything I could in there. I went into the registry, and didn't see anything in there saying disabled on the right pane. IP V6 is on. When I go into services, I clicked on all of the suggested services to make sure they're all set to automatic. I set all of them to auto, but " Peer Networking grouping service" wouldn't start. I got an error message saying "windows could not start the Peer Networking Grouping service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." I tried to start it manually, but it didn't work. It gives the same error.

@vigneshnallamad I am trying to do anything with the homegroup. I can't really do anything with it. Can't Join, can't leave, can't view password, or change.... nothing.

I this resolved @ original poster.

Well I have some suggestions but dont want 2 waist my time if it is.

But 1 quick thing 2 consider is any program like "TuneUp Utilities" if U have it installed & are running turbo & didnt setup turbo properly it wont let some services run.

If U r still having a problem respond.
